Joanna is a survivor turned climate activist. After losing most of her family to Super Typhoon Haiyan– one of the world’s strongest typhoons in 2013, she has served as a voice for the people of Leyte and other climate-impacted communities by humanizing the climate crisis through the power of storytelling.
She has spoken in international climate meetings organized by the United Nations, Greenpeace, and other international organizations. In 2017, she sailed to the Arctic to speak to the youth and parliament of Norway, and to confront Arctic oil drilling. In 2018, she participated in a peaceful protest in Poland against the system of coal and has finally joined The Climate Pilgrimage- a 1,500 kilometer walk from Italy to Poland, across 6 countries over 65 days. In 2019, she challenged Big Oil by holding a lone protest in front of the Shell headquarters in BGC.
While still active in promoting the rights of climate-impacted communities, she recently joined Greenpeace Philippines as a Public Engagement Campaigner for Visayas and Mindanao.
